Join hundreds of volunteers who joined last year in donating over 4,500 hours of service through one-day beautification projects at our sites, sharing a profession during CAP’s annual Career Day, teaching a class in our Summer Academies focused on STEAM and Leadership or working in our administrative office. Volunteers gain a rewarding hand-on experience while making a difference in the community.
Internship opportunities combine knowledge learned in the classroom with application and skills development in the field and provide our youth with a better understanding of educational resources. This past year, college Academic Advisors interning with CAP continued to motivate motiving at-risk you on a path to not only get them to college, but through college. Our interns and volunteers had such a great time helping our families and students in need, that some decided to return for another year. If you’re interested in joining our team as an intern, please contact Stephanie Cohen, SteppingUP Program Coordinator at (714) 558-8161 ext. 118 or stephanie@occhc.org.
Food and Toy Drives during the holiday season help give relief to our families struggling to make ends meet. In 2016, we were able to distribute over 1,600 non-perishable items to 90 families during our Thanksgiving Drive, 38 bikes to children of families who had just moved from motels and shelters into our housing and over 80 stockings to children in celebration of the holidays.
Most often, families earning 30% of the median income have little, if any, resources for learning for their children. Join us in preparing our youth by donating starting a backpack drive in your community and building a child’s confidence in starting the school year prepared. Backpack donation collections begin in July and run through August 10th.
